Where on Earth is the Time Going? Happy Birthday, Precious Daughter!

I have been tracking with the rapid age progression of my oldest. . .I saw 18 coming and battened down the hatches in preparation for the onslaught of emotions I knew would wash over me as my first stepped from childhood to adulthood.  It was hard, but I think I handled it well, all things considered.

So you'd think that I would recognize that I have three more children behind the first and have been equally prepared for their logical march of age.  But I somehow missed that point.

Hannah Elizabeth at three!
My beautiful, amazing, creative, smart, funny, and glorious daughter, Hannah Elizabeth, has turned 17!  You know, 17!!  The last year before adulthood!!  YIKES!!

Where the heck has the time gone?!?!

She came to us at one and was the cutest, most feisty, little imp we'd ever met.  We've watched her triumph and struggle and learn to embrace the incredible person that she is (instead of measuring herself up to others) and, suddenly, 16 years are gone and now we have an amazing young woman living with us.

We have no doubt, dear daughter, that you are going to change the world.  A lofty goal?  Perhaps, but we'll tell you a secret. . .you already have.  You have brought light and love and laughter into our family on such a scale that I can't imagine what life would have been like without you.  You've challenged us and blessed us and accepted us for the imperfect parents WE are and have kept true to the beautifully unique YOU that you are.

We utterly love you.

Happy Birthday, precious girl.
