A Place to Write

It's been a very interesting year. One of those with HUGE highs and some really low "lows."  And with a family our size, there seemed to be no moment in which one or BOTH were happening.

So some of my hopes for this year have been shelved in favor of the more pressing issues that presented themselves. And I'm okay with that.  I'm a wife first, and then a mom, and everything else either can wait or isn't important enough to worry about.

But we finally seemed to have a break in the chaos.  At the same time, I found out that I was going to be able to attend a writer's conference in late March/early April, which, honestly, thrilled me down to my little toes.

So I needed to do some writing.  Fast.

After all, going to one of the best Christian Writers Conferences in the US sort of begs preparation.  With so many of the key editors, agents and publishers present, not having anything ready to submit seemed quite the waste of time and opportunity!

So I snuck away.

The beauty of living just over the pass from Reno is that it's relatively close (if you're not stuck in a snowstorm!!) and you can get mega cheap rooms.  So I booked one and holed up.

My room faced the west and I could see the Sierras as I wrote and wrote.  I wrote through the morning.  I wrote through mid-day.  I wrote through the stunning glow of sunset over the mountains and I wrote deeply into the night.  I even wrote as a storm rolled in and dropped a glorious (and much needed!) blanket of snow on the distant peaks.

And with every word. . .with every letter. . .I was blessed.

I'm a wife first.  And then a mom.

But you know what?  I'm a writer, too.

No matter where it takes me.
