Who is Ma Ingalls?

If you know anything about me, you know that I am a MASSIVE Little House and Laura Ingalls Wilder Fan.  My husband is well trained to purchase any new book related to the Ingalls, the Little House sites, or any one remotely connected to either of them. Love that man.

One day I was doing some research for a book project and was looking at my over stuffed shelf dedicated to all things Little House. There are books about recipes, Eliza Jane, recreated journeys and all sorts of related tomes. History, biographies, devotionals, collections of articles, how-to's. And, of course, all the fictionalized accounts based of the various Little House women.

But there seemed to be a bit of a hole where Ma should be. Have you noticed that?

I mean, there's the fictionalized account of her childhood. And, well, nothing else. No biographies. No collections of her letters or writings. Nothing.

And that kind of unsettled me.

I've never really felt connected to Ma the way I have with the rest of the family. Not that I don't like her.  I just felt, well, kind of distant from her.  Like there's a formal space between us that politeness won't let me cross.

But that's not enough for me. So, I'm going to be laying down one project and picking up another. Anyone else up for a hunt for Caroline Quiner Ingalls?
