A Search For Caroline Quiner Ingalls. . .

Caroline Ingalls - Bio, Facts, Family | Famous BirthdaysWith school back in session, and the first few weeks of getting the "should have done in summer" tasks completed, I've been able to turn my thoughts back to writing. And despite having a million projects I could be working on. . .one keeps drawing my attention.

Who was Caroline Quiner Ingalls?

Now, I love the fictionalized account of her childhood. Love it. And I know there are some facts there among the stories. . .like the loss of her father, her move from Brookefield, and time in the big city. But, deep down, I know that all of the dialogue and much of the series is just supposition and story telling.  Good story telling, but fiction nonetheless.

And that just isn't enough for me.

Have you noticed when you google the Ingalls family, or look on Amazon for Little House related books, or peruse the offerings at Little House museum sites, that there's an awful lot written about and by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and much written about those connected to her. But nothing really about her Ma?  I've always thought that was odd.

So I've decided to really focus my hunt.  I want to know who Caroline Quiner Ingalls was. I want to know, not suppose. I want to look for her in Laura's writings. I want to look for her in letters and biographies and any other documentation I can.

Ma deserves to step out of the shadows, where she quietly cares for her family, and into the spotlight, though I already know she would hate that.  But I'm going to do it anyway.

Because I want to know Ma.
